Open tryouts for teams that need players are typically held in May of the Spring prior to the year for which a child will play. We sometimes hold open tryouts at other times of the year - notices for that are posted on the website and typically distributed to Metuchen schools. Teams may also, if they deem it necessary, hold invitational tryouts at any time during the year.
Players are asked to tryout for their birth-year group. Any player already on a team at an older age may continue to try out for and play for that team. The player may also opt to try out and play for a younger team if one is formed. No player may play up more than one age-bracket at any time for any reason. There is an exception for high-school teams (U16 age through U19). In the event that a player is on a high-school team that is playing Travel Soccer together, that player may remain with his/her team, even if that player is playing up more then one age-bracket.
IN ALL CASES, THE CLUB RESERVES THE RIGHT TO DISALLOW, AT ANY POINT IN TIME, THE CHILD FROM PLAYING IN AN OLDER AGE-BRACKET IF, IN THE SOLE JUDGMENT OF THE CLUB BOARD, DOING SO WOULD POSE AN UNACCEPTABLE RISK TO THE HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELL-BEING OF THE CHILD.
To view the most up-to-date tryout schedule, visit our tryouts page here or on facebook. You will be able to get up to the minute information about tryouts there, including information about any sessions that have been rained out, or otherwise postponed or cancelled.
Each tryout coach will be running the players through exercises that allow the players to demonstrate their soccer abilities. Players will be evaluated on a number of areas, including:
